Frequently asked questions
- What file formats can Paginel open?
- Paginel opens PDF files. Support for other formats isn't planned right now.
- Do I need Pages or Numbers installed to convert a PDF?
- Yes, on Mac. Paginel automates Pages or Numbers to produce a native .pages or .numbers file. If neither is installed, Paginel falls back to a DOCX or XLSX file you can open in any word processor or spreadsheet app.
- Does OCR send my document anywhere?
- No. Scanned PDFs are recognized entirely on-device using Apple's Vision framework as part of the convert flow. Nothing is uploaded.
- Is the signature feature a legally binding e-signature?
- No. It stamps a picture of your signature onto the page, similar to Preview's Signature tool on Mac. It isn't a cryptographic or legally binding digital signature.
- Can I merge, split, reorder, or rotate pages?
- Yes, in the Pages tab: rotate or delete selected pages, drag to reorder, insert pages from another PDF, extract selected pages into a new file, or split a document into multiple files.
- Where are my saved signatures stored?
- Locally, inside Paginel's sandboxed app data on your device. They're never uploaded anywhere.
- Which devices does Paginel support?
- Mac (macOS 14 or later), iPhone, and iPad (iOS/iPadOS 17 or later). Reading, annotating, and page management work on every device; converting to Pages/Numbers is Mac only.
- How do I report a bug or request a feature?
- Email us at the address above with as much detail as you can — what you were doing, what you expected, and what happened instead. Screenshots help a lot.
